Was it a Sako or a Tikka?

A few years ago they used a duff batch of stainless steel that someone said had come from the Russian Navy. A lot of the guns made with it had all sorts of blowups, usually breaches. They recalled the whole lot. Only very few came to the UK, by all accounts.

Absolutely, I was gonna say about the barrels as well, but it looks like a remington or weatherby/howa action to me though.... BOOM *pffrrp* *squelch* I've seen quite a few pics like that on the net mostly from tikkas from recollection, though someone did take his new 7mm rem mag (can't see the point of it myself - but that's for another day) with some handloads he'd made up, only he'd reloaded them with a fast burning powder not the slow burn magnum type powder I think the only salvageable thing was the trigger guard though.....

From the clothes they're wearing, it looks like they're in the U.S.

To me that looks like an obstruction already in the barrel, like Snap said, either the bullet is the wrong calibre of some other obstruction, rare for a rifle barrel to peel into four like that.

If it was an over pressured load, the barrel would have bulged or breached.

Looked to me like he had a hangfire, didn't eject clean then the whole damn lot went off at once.

also another pointer to the US is the fact that we don't have Bugling elk!

I love the clothes they are wearing tho. High vis jackets and even a bright orange baseball cap. Nice & subtle!

there are certain legal requirements that vary from state to state the you have to have a certain area of high vis orange in you clothing, as the seasons are short for the different gun/bow muzzle loader seasons and the hunting areas have often got a number of hunters in them it's common sense and safety, if the deer/elk can't see colour then what difference does it make! :clapper:

I can't swear to the truth of this, but a few years ago a guy I knew told me that he had just totalled his semi-auto Beretta. He loaded his own cartridges, and he did tend to push the loads to the limit. He was putting a few rounds together when the doorbell rang. Answered the door, yak yak yak, then back to the bench. Forgot where he'd got to, shoved another heavy load of powder in, topped it up . . .Next day up flies a feral, Bob lets go and WHA-A-M. He showed me the gun. Peeled back like a banana. He was a daft twat tho!

Ric
